Athletic Highlights: September 3 – September 10, 2018
Football: The Mars Hill football team was downed 27-9 in their 2018 home opener versus Shaw on Saturday afternoon. Austin Brown threw for 244 yards, going 27-of-42. He also rushed for 32 yards including a 15 yard run for the lone Lions' touchdown. Chris Ferdinand had nine tackles, three for a loss and one that resulted in a safety.
Men's Soccer: The Lions went 1-1 this week, suffering a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Lees-McRae on Wednesday night, but winning their second double overtime thriller on Saturday night against Mount Olive. Sebastian Bertilsson scored in both contests and has three goals in his last three games. Jimmy Char scored his first ever collegiate goal in the double overtime frame to give Mars Hill their third win of the year.
Women's Soccer: Mars Hill went 0-2 this past week, falling to Francis Marion by a score of 1-0 and Barton 2-0 as part of the Catawba Classic.
Women's Golf: The Lions set two school records at the SCAD Atlanta Invitational earlier in the week. The Lion set the lowest single round score (310) and two round total score (635) over the two day event. Mars Hill placed seventh overall with Marie Syvertsen as the top performer for the Lions, placing eighth overall.
Volleyball: The Lions went 3-1 at the Converse Invitational held on Friday and Saturday. Mars Hill dropped their first match against Alabama-Huntsville by a score of 3-0, but rallied to win the next three matches in a row, all in straight sets. Sally Anne Johnson was named to the All-Tournament team, registering 31 kills and 13 blocks while hitting .362 over the two days. Ully Martins racked up 86 digs and currently sits atop the South Atlantic Conference with 193 on the season.
