Athletic Highlights: October 29 – November 5, 2018
Football: The Mars Hill football team defeated UNC Pembroke by a score of 34-21 on Saturday afternoon. Austin Brown threw for 268 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for 54 yards and one score. Tyler Ferguson had two touchdown receptions and 109 yards. Chris Ferdinand led the Lions' defense with seven tackles, one sack and an interception.
Men's Cross Country: Mars Hill placed ninth at the South Atlantic Conference Championships. Nick Resor was the top finishing Lions' runner, placing 34th.
Women's Cross Country: Nyla Feeney earned All-SAC Honorable Mention team honors at the conclusion of the South Atlantic Conference Championships held on Saturday morning. Feeney placed 20th overall, while the Lions finished ninth as a team.
Men's Swimming: The Lions went 3-0 over the weekend, earning wins over King, Warren Wilson and Chowan. Mars Hill will next swim at the Fall Frenzy on November 16-18th in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Women's Swimming: Mars Hill remained undefeated, picking up four wins over King, Warren Wilson, Converse and Chowan. The Lions sit at 7-0 on the season and will next swim at the Fall Frenzy on November 16-18th in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Women's Golf: The Lions placed 14th at the Jekyll-O-Lantern Intercollegiate Tuesday afternoon. Marie Syvertsen was the top finishing Lions' golfer with a 48th place finish.
Volleyball: Mars Hill went 1-1 this past week, earning a four set win over Tusculum on the road, but falling to Carson-Newman at home on Senior Day. The Lions concluded the regular season with a record of 16-12 and earned the seven seed in the upcoming SAC Tournament. The Lions will travel to Anderson, South Carolina to take on the Trojans on Tuesday, November 6th at 7 p.m.
