Baseball Loses at King
The Lions baseball team lost at King 14-4 Monday afternoon. Phillip Carroll led MHU at the plate going 3-4 with a homerun, two RBI and a run scored.
BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Lions baseball team lost at King 14-4 Monday afternoon. Mars Hill fell to 9-14 overall while the Tornados improved to 7-16-1 on the season.
Phillip Carroll led MHU at the plate going 3-4 with a homerun, two RBI and a run scored. Nick Villalobos was 2-4 with a run scored while David King and Dalton Eisenbath had a hit (solo homerun) and an RBI apiece. Adam Daniel took the loss (0-1) on the mound for the Lions.
Taylor Raymond led King offensively going 4-5 with a double, triple, an RBI and a run scored. Tyler Gaby was 3-4 with three runs scored and a double. Alexander Gonzalez picked up the win (2-3) on the mound for the Tornados. He threw six innings scattering seven hits, allowed four runs and struck out five batters.
King scored three runs in their first at-bat and never looked back. The Tornados had four hits in the inning highlighted by a RBI double from Raymond.
Carroll belted his solo homerun down the right field line to put the Lions on the board in the second frame. King answered with single runs in their second and third at-bat to lead 5-1.
MHU scored two runs in the fourth inning on three hits and one King error. David King hit a RBI double in the at-bat to trim the deficit to 5-3. The Tornados then exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on the same number of hits and one Lion miscue to take a 11-3 advantage. Moises Soto drove in two runs on a single to right field.
After King added a single run in the fifth inning, Eisenbath hit a solo shot to left field to make the score 12-4 in favor of the hosts. The Tornados added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning on two hits and one Lion error. Joe Gander had a two-RBI single in the inning.
Mars Hill will host Limestone on Tuesday, March 10 at 2:30 p.m. at Henderson Field.
