Baseball Loses to Limestone in Ninth Inning
Limestone scored two runs in the ninth inning to break open a 5-5 game to defeat the Lions in baseball action Tuesday afternoon at Henderson Field.
MARS HILL, N.C. – Limestone scored two runs in the ninth inning to break open a 5-5 game to defeat the Lions in baseball action Tuesday afternoon at Henderson Field. Mars Hill fell to 9-15 on the season while the Saints improved to 7-15 overall.
David King and Nick Villalobos led the Lions at the plate with two hits apiece. Villalobos added four RBI and a homerun. Hunter Boydston suffered the loss (3-2) pitching in relief.
Kyle Booth led Limestone going 3-5 with three RBI and a double. Kaleb Earls picked up the win (1-5) throwing the final 3.0 innings in relief.
Philip Carroll doubled down the left field line to plate Jacob Rand to put the Lions ahead 1-0 after their first at-bat. Villalobos then gave MHU a 4-0 lead by hitting a three-run homerun down the right field line.
Limestone scored a single run in the fourth inning before tying the game in the seventh inning scoring three runs on two hits and one Lion error. Kyle Booth accounted for all three runs hitting a bases loaded double. The team traded runs in the eighth frame before the Saints notched the game winning run in the ninth.
Mars Hill will host Wingate University this weekend for a three-game South Atlantic Conference series. The teams will meet for a single game on Friday at 2 p.m. and then play a double-header on Saturday at 12 p.m.
