Baseball Sweeps Montreat

Game 1: Mars Hill 12, Montreat 3
Mars Hill stormed out to a 5-1 lead after the first inning en route to a 12-3 victory.
Montreat got on the board on the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Lance Gower that scored Cody Reid. Mars Hill began their five-run inning with a Nick Villalobos one-out single, with Phillip Carroll driving in Villalobos on a double to left-center. David King singled to right, followed by a Tommy Scala double. Dalton Eisenbath traded places with Scala, followed by a Jacob Rand single and a sacrifice fly that plated Eisenbath.
In the second inning, a King single plated Carroll for a 6-1 Lion lead. Montreat pulled back to within four in the third on a Terry Carson home run to right field. Evan Rogers answered for the Lions in the third with a two-out home run.
Mars Hill added three runs in the fourth on a King single, an Adam Daniel sacrifice fly and a Marc Marsh base hit. In the fifth inning, a Scala double and an Eisenbath groundout added two more runs for a 12-2 advantage. Luke Barton's one-out home run in the seventh inning capped the scoring.
Carroll went three-for-four with two singles, a double, an RBI and four runs scored. King went three-for-four with three singles, two runs scored and two RBIs. Scala went two-for-four with a pair of doubles, a run scored and two RBIs, while Villalobos went two-for-four with two singles and a run scored. Daniel drove in two runs with two sacrifice flies.
Kevin Searcy threw his second consecutive complete game, allowing three runs on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts in seven innings. Jordan Watts took the loss after allowing five runs, four earned, on seven hits in an inning of work.
Game 2: Mars Hill 5, Montreat 3
Avery Womble's first home run of the season capped a three-run seventh inning as Mars Hill rallied to complete the sweep of the Cavaliers.
Mars Hill scored the first run of the game in the third inning. Shawn Weber led off with a double, advanced to third on a flyout and scored on a Caleb Harbin single.
Montreat tied the contest in the fourth inning on a Chris Keyes double to left-center. Terry Carson scored to even the game at 1-all, but Phillip Carroll, Evan Rogers and Zach Honeycutt teamed up to retie Lance Gower as he tried to score to end the inning.
A Carson home run put Montreat up 2-1, with a Wes Aulet single scoring Gower to give the Cavaliers a 3-1 lead.
Mars Hill pulled to within a run on a two-out double by Dalton Eisenbath. Alex Zachary scored on the play, but Phillip Carroll was ruled out at the plate as he tried to score from first base.
In the Mars Hill seventh, Jacob Rand reached on a one-out walk and scored on Rogers' two-out double to tie the game. Womble ended the game with his first home run of the season, sending Tyler Cornelius' 0-1 pitch over the right field fence.
Weber went two-for-three with a single, double and run scored. Harbin went one-for-two with a single and an RBI. Eisenbath went one-for-three with a double and a RBI. Honeycutt went one-for-two with a double. Rogers went one-for-three with a double. Carroll and David King each went one-for-three with a single.
Alan Kolb earned his first win of the season, retiring the only batter he faced in the seventh inning. Hunter Boydston allowed three runs on eight hits with a walk and seven strikeouts in six innings. Colton Alliston allowed a hit in two-thirds of an inning.
Cornelius took his fifth loss of the season, allowing three runs on two hits with a walk in two-thirds of an inning. Will Feimster allowed two runs on seven hits with three strikeouts in six innings.
Mars Hill returns to conference play on Saturday, hosting Lincoln Memorial.
