Baseball Falls to North Greenville
The Mars Hill baseball team suffered a 13-3 defeat at the hands of North Greenville on Tuesday afternoon at Henderson Field.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team suffered a 13-3 defeat at the hands of North Greenville on Tuesday afternoon at Henderson Field. The Lions drop to 16-19 on the season with the loss.
North Greenville got on the board in the second on a Drew Lipscomb single that plated Taylor Hollifield. In the third, a walk, single and bunt single loaded the bases for Foley George, who hit a grand slam for a 5-0 Crusader lead.
Mars Hill got on the board as Ky'Rawn Whitfield reached on a one out single and advanced to third on a Crusader error. Evan Rogers brought home Whitfield with his sixth double of the season before trading places with Phillip Carroll to cut the North Greenville advantage to 5-2.
North Greenville added three runs in the fourth inning on a double and a Mars Hill error. Lipscomb brought home Hollifield with a double in the fifth inning for a 9-2 lead. The Crusaders plated four runs in the sixth on a Hollifield single and a Zac Davis double.
Alex Zachary led off the Mars Hill eighth with a double, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a North Greenville error.
Carroll went two-for-four with a single, double and RBI to lead Mars Hill. Rogers went one-for-four with a double, run scored and RBI. Zachary, Whitfield, Nick Villalobos, Tommy Scala and Caleb Harbin each had hits for the Lions.
Mitchell went three-for-five with three runs scored and an RBI to lead the Crusaders. Davis, Lipscomb, polk and Hollifield each had two hits.
Stewart Hunt earned his first win of the year, allowing two runs, one earned, on seven hits with five walks and two strikeouts in six innings. Cuyler McAuliffe earned his first save, allowing an unearned run on a hit with a walk in three innings of relief. Patrick Riehl took the loss after he allowed four runs on three hits with a walk.
Mars Hill hits the road on Friday, beginning a South Atlantic Conference series with Catawba. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
