Baseball Drops 3-2 Decision in Extra Innings
The Lions’ baseball team dropped a 3-2 decision in extra innings at Georgia Southwestern Sunday afternoon at Hurricane Stadium.
AMERICUS, Ga. – The Lions' baseball team dropped a 3-2 decision in extra innings at Georgia Southwestern Sunday afternoon at Hurricane Stadium. Mars Hill evened their season record to 2-2 while GSU improved to 2-1 on the year.
Christian Stampler went 1-2 at the plate with an RBI to lead the Lions offensively. Hunter Merrill was 1-5 with a run scored. Blaine Farrell suffered the loss (1-1) for MHU on the mound pitching the in relief for the Lions in the tenth inning.
Zach Barron led the Hurricanes at the plate going 1-3 with a solo homerun. Clay Patrick was 1-5, also adding a solo homerun. Mitch Holloway obtained the win throwing the final inning in relief. He allowed no hits and struck out one batter.
Barron hit a solo homerun in the second inning to give GSU a 1-0 advantage. Daniel Vitello tied the contest for the Lions in the sixth inning when he scored after stealing third base and then advanced home on a throwing error by the Hurricanes' catcher.
Stampler singled up the middle in the eighth inning to plate Merrill and gave the Lions a 2-1 lead. The Hurricanes answered in the bottom half of the inning when Patrick led the at-bat off with a solo homerun to center field.
GSU won the game in the tenth inning when Diamyn Hall singled to left field with one out on the board to drive in Evan Alderman for the game winning score.
Mars Hill will host Winston-Salem State in a three-game series this weekend at Henderson Field. The teams will meet for a double-header on Saturday, at 12 p.m. and then play a single game at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
