Baseball Loses at Lander

GREENWOOD, S.C. – Mars Hill's baseball team lost a double-header at Lander Sunday afternoon at Dolny Stadium. The Lions lost the first game 5-2 and then dropped the second contest, 1-0. MHU fell to 7-4 overall while the Bearcats improved to 4-7 on the season.
Game 1: LU 5, MHU 2
Brett Brubaker led Mars Hill at the plate in game one going 2-3 with a homerun. Cody Cline went 1-2 with an RBI. Kaleb McCurry took the loss (1-1) pitching the final 1.1 innings in relief.
Carson Jones led the Bearcats offensively going 1-3 with a homerun and two RBI. Mason Dodd followed going 2-3 with a double and a RBI. Joseph Whitt picked up the win (1-1) throwing the final two innings.
Colton Yeager singled in the third inning to score Dodd and give the Bearcats a 1-0 advantage. A solo homerun by Brubaker in the fourth inning tied the contest at 1-all. The teams traded runs in the fifth frame. Cline singled to plate Gray McCurry for the Lions and then Dodd led off the bottom half of the fifth inning by hitting a homerun.
Lander scored three runs in the sixth inning on two hits and one Lion error to seal the win. Jones belted a two-run homer in the at-bat.
Game 2: LU1, MHU 0
Daniel Vitello, Travis Owens and Barrett Hennings accounted for the Lions' three hits in the nightcap. Vitello and Henning's hits were both doubles. Troy Hall suffered the loss (0-1) on the mound for the Lions.
Zach Giczewski drove in the winning run. He was 1-2 with a double. Nathan Schreckengost was also 1-2 and scored the only run in the game. Cameron Tekker got the win (1-0) throwing two innings in middle relief. Marshal Thompson threw the last two innings to pick up his first save on the season.
Schreckengost doubled to lead off the second inning for the Bearcats and then Giczewski doubled to plate Schreckengost for the game winning score.
Mars Hill will host Millersville in a four-game series this weekend at Henderson Field. The teams will play a double-header on Saturday at 12 p.m. and then play a double-header on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
