Five Lions selected to All-SAC Preseason teams, Lions picked 5th in conference
Five Mars Hill Lions baseball players earned 2018 South Atlantic Conference Baseball Preseason All-Conference team honors, as announced by the league Friday afternoon.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Five Mars Hill Lions baseball players earned 2018 South Atlantic Conference Baseball Preseason All-Conference team honors, as announced by the league Friday afternoon.
Outfielder Brett Brubaker, catcher Matt Honeycutt and starting pitcher Zac Brown were selected to All-SAC First Team. Brubaker led the team last season with 14 homeruns and 55 RBIs while batting .345, appearing in all 50 games. Honeycutt placed second on the team with five homeruns and 34 RBIs. Brown posted several career highs last season, including innings pitched (83.2), strikeouts (81) and ERA (3.55). He posted a record of 6-3 with one save and one complete game.
Third baseman Christian Stampler and starting pitcher Jared Mathewson found spots on the All-SAC Second team. Stampler posted 39 hits in the 2017 campaign, including five homeruns and six doubles. Mathewson went 3-1 on the season with two saves in 17 appearances while posting a 3.26 ERA.
The Mars Hill Lions were slated fifth in the preseason poll, tied with Carson-Newman. Each team received 58 points.

The Lions open up the 2018 season on the road at Erskine on Friday, February 2 p.m. The first home game of the year takes place on Saturday, February 17 versus Kutztown. The double-header begins at 12 p.m.
