Matt Honeycutt adds two more postseason accolades
Mars Hill junior catcher Matt Honeycutt collected two postseason accolades on Wednesday afternoon, being named to the American Baseball Coaches of America (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Southeast Region Second Team as well as an honorable mention All-American for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
MARS HILL, N.C. - Mars Hill junior catcher Matt Honeycutt collected two postseason accolades on Wednesday afternoon, being named to the American Baseball Coaches of America (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Southeast Region Second Team as well as an honorable mention All-American for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
Honeycutt, a native of China Grove, North Carolina, led the Lions with a career-year. He had 69 hits including 15 home runs and 14 doubles while driving in 49 RBI. He batted .399, which was good for third in the South Atlantic Conference, with an on-base percentage of .493 and slugging percentage of .751 while playing in all 48 games of the 2018 season. He was second in total bases with 130 on the year.
Honeycutt was named the South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week, NCBWA Regional and National Player of the Week in the first week of April. In six games, Honeycutt batted .667 with six home runs and 14 RBI. He posted a 1.571 slugging percentage and .724 on-base percentage.
His postseason accolades include SAC First Team All-Conference, NCBWA All-Southeast Region First Team and D2CCA All-Southeast Region First Team honors.
