McCurry homers in 2019 season opener versus Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Mars Hill baseball team (0-1) were felled by Augusta (1-0) in non-conference play by a score of 13-8 in their 2019 season opener on the road Friday afternoon.
The Jaguars scored 10 unanswered runs to come from behind for the win. Their comeback bid began in the bottom of the sixth inning, when they trailed Mars Hill 8-3 with one out in the frame. Augusta would go on to score six runs in the inning to take their first lead of the contest, entering the seventh with a 9-8 lead. They tacked on four insurance runs in the final two innings, including three in the bottom of the eighth.
Matt Honeycutt's RBI groundout in the top of the first inning gave the Lions the 1-0 lead. They added five runs in the second inning to build a 6-0 lead. Following a Gray McCurry RBI single, Paul Martin's two RBI double put Mars Hill up 4-0. He later scored off of a RBI single from Honeycutt. Augusta cut the lead in half by scoring three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Ben Markewicz, on a groundout to second, drove in the second Jaguars' run. It would be the first of three RBIs for Markewicz on the day.
McCurry extended the Lions' lead to 8-3 in the top of the fifth inning with a two-out, two-run home run, driving in Devin Mangum. McCurry ended the game going 3-for-5 with three RBI on the day.
Tony Jones earned the win for the Jaguars, going four innings and striking out six and allowing only one hit. Troy Hall suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs, six unearned in 2.1 innings pitched.
Mars Hill returns to action on Saturday, February 2nd with a doubleheader against Augusta. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
