Lee homers in contest versus Coker
The Mars Hill baseball team (4-7, 0-1 SAC) dropped their 2019 South Atlantic Conference opener versus Coker (5-5-1, 1-0 SAC) by a score of 9-3 Sunday afternoon on the road.
HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (4-7, 0-1 SAC) dropped their 2019 South Atlantic Conference opener versus Coker (5-5-1, 1-0 SAC) by a score of 9-3 Sunday afternoon on the road.
A five-run fourth inning by the Cobras put the game out of reach for Mars Hill. Larry McCabe started the scoring for the Cobras with a solo home run to double the Coker lead, 4-2, in the bottom half of the inning. With runners on second and third later in the frame, a RBI single from Grant Thompson plated Casey Demko. Coker added another run off of a Mars Hill error and to cap of the inning, Reilly Hall's single up the middle plated both runners with two outs to go up 7-2 at the end of the frame.
The Lions cut into the lead in the top of the fifth off of a Brett Brubaker RBI double that scored Daniel Vitello. In the bottom of the seventh, the Cobras added two more runs off of Demko's RBI double that scored McCabe and Nicholas Hertzfeld.
Mars Hill took the early 1-0 lead in the top of the second off of Scottie Lee's solo home run, the first of his collegiate career. The lead was short lived as Coker scored twice in the bottom half of the stanza. In the top of the fourth, Austin Treadway's RBI groundout plated Lee to tie the game at two.
Jon Koski earned his second win of the season, allowing three runs on three hits in five innings pitched while striking out six. Troy Hall suffered the loss, allowing seven runs on six hits in 3.2 innings pitched.
The Lions close out the series with Coker in doubleheader action on Monday, February 25th with the first pitch slated for 11 a.m.
