Mars Hill falls to undefeated Shorter on road
The Mars Hill baseball team (1-6) was defeated in both games versus the Hawks of Shorter (6-0) Sunday afternoon on the road.

ROME, Ga. - The Mars Hill baseball team (1-6) was defeated in both games versus the Hawks of Shorter (6-0) Sunday afternoon on the road by scores of 9-0 and 3-2.
GAME ONE: SHO 9, MHU 0
Shorter used a six-run fifth inning to take game one over Mars Hill.
Entering the frame up 1-0, the Hawks emptied the bases with a three-run double off the bat of Nathaniel Butterworth. Later in the inning, Shorter repeated the feat. With the bases loaded, Cory Mason cleared the bases with a double through the left side, putting the Hawks up 7-0.
In the bottom of the sixth, Luis Acevedo tacked on two more runs with a double to right field.
Jonathan Pintaro picked up the win, striking out eight and allowing two hits in six innings pitched. Austin Treadway and Trevor Bailey recorded the Lions' hits in the contest.
GAME TWO: SHO 3, MHU 2
In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Hawks were able to break the 2-2 deadlock and remain undefeated.
With runners on first and second, a RBI single off the bat of Bailey Gerstner plated Sam Darling for the game-winning run.
The Lions opened the scoring in the top of the third with a RBI groundout from Austin Treadway. Cody Cline scored the first run on the afternoon for Mars Hill. In the bottom of the third, the Hawks tied the game up with a RBI groundout of their own, off the bat of Cory Mason.
Justin Goyton's RBI single in the bottom of the sixth gave Shorter the lead, one they would hold until the top of the ninth. With two outs, a single to center field from Kameron Reynolds plated Hunter Holland for the tying run.
Chad Davis earned the win, striking out eight and allowing two hits in 6.2 innings pitched. Cameron Howell suffered the loss, allowing one run on one hit in 1.1 innings pitched.
The Lions take to the road on Wednesday, February 12, facing off against Southern Wesleyan. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
