JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Mars Hill baseball team (0-1) opened their 2021 season on the road versus Carson-Newman (3-1) Friday afternoon, falling by a score of 11-1.
A two-run double off the bat of Henry Jackson in the bottom of the third inning saw the Eagles take the 2-1 lead. A Lions' error allowed Brendan Krob to score later in the frame, putting the Lions down by two.
Jackson struck again in the fourth inning with a two-run triple, building the Eagles lead up to four. Carson-Newman added two more runs in the frame, capping off a five-run inning.
The Eagles tacked on three more runs throughout the fifth and sixth stanzas, including a solo home run off the bat of Kilian Daughtry in the sixth.
Mars Hill opened the scoring in the top of the second as Scottie Lee blasted a solo home run to right center field.
Matt Coles picked up the win, striking out eight in 5.2 innings, allowing one run on three hits. Cameron Howell suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs on seven hits in 3.1 innings.
The Lions wrap up the weekend series when they host Carson-Newman on Sunday, February 14. Both games of the doubleheader will be seven-inning affairs. First pitch at Henderson Field is slated for 12 p.m.
