Lions drop series versus Newberry
The Mars Hill baseball team (12-19, 9-17 SAC) was defeated by Newberry (14-11, 11-7 SAC) in both games played Tuesday by scores of 7-6 and 8-5, respectively.

NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (12-19, 9-17 SAC) was defeated by Newberry (14-11, 11-7 SAC) in both games played Tuesday by scores of 7-6 and 8-5, respectively.
GAME ONE: NBY 7, MHU 6
Mars Hill jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the third, capped by a Tyler Lala two-run home run, his sixth of the season. The Wolves scored four in the bottom half of the inning, highlighted by Aidan Baur's two-run single.
Nick Butler, in the bottom of the fifth, provided the Wolves their first lead of the contest with a two-run single to center field. A wild pitch by the Lions allowed Baur to score to go up by two.
Cal Hubbard, in the top of the sixth, narrowed the deficit to one with a fielder's choice that plated Scottie Lee.
Butler led all players with three RBI while Luke Orr led the Wolves with three hits. Lee led the Lions with three hits while Lala recorded a team-high two RBI. Jonathan White picked up the win, allowing just three hits and one run in 3.1 innings pitched.
GAME TWO: NBY 8, MHU 5
The Wolves scored six runs in the third and fourth innings combined to seal their Tuesday sweep.
Ruben Trillo put the Lions up 1-0 after one with a sacrifice fly that plated Austin Purser. Jack Harris' RBI double in the bottom of the third tied the game up while Nick Butler's RBI single later in the frame gave the Wolves the lead.
Harris, Zachary Bailes, and Luke Orr each recorded RBI singles in the fourth to build the Newberry lead.
The Lions began to chip away in the top of the fifth. Following Purser's RBI groundout, Trillo drove in his third run of the game with a two-run home run to cut the lead down to 6-4. In the top of the eighth, Kyle Jenkins grounded out to first, but plated Hunter Holland to close the gap to one.
RBI singles from Aidan Baur and Braylin Marine in the bottom of the eighth added insurance runs for the Wolves.
Trillo led all players with three RBI while Purser and Jordan Lathe each led the team with two hits. Five Wolves recorded two hits in the contest while Harris led the team with two RBI.
Devin Makovsky earned the win, allowing one run on two hits in 1.2 innings pitched.
The Lions return to the diamond on Friday, April 10 when they take on Emmanuel in non-conference play. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
