Jennings Named Offensive Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C.-- Mars Hill wide receiver Deunta Jennings has been named the South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Jennings helped MHC stay atop the SAC standings by catching eight passes for 212 yards in the Lions' 23-20 overtime victory over Tusculum at Meares Stadium. Jennings also scored a rushing touchdown on an end-around in the first quarter. Mars Hill owns a 6-3 overall record and is 5-1 in conference play.
Saturday marked Jennings' third-consecutive 100-plus yard receiving game and his fifth overall this season. The sophomore ranks fourth in the SAC with 751 yards this season and leads the conference by averaging 18.8 yards per catch.
Jennings is the third Lion to be honored as Offensive Player of the Week this season. Jon Richt and Shaikel Davis have also been named a player of the week this season.
Lenoir-Rhyne linebacker Tanner Botts was named Defensive Player of the Week, while Carson-Newman kicker Curt Duncan was named Special Teams Player of the Week.
Mars Hill will enjoy an off-week this week before taking on Carson-Newman next Saturday in Jefferson City, Tenn. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
