Siasia Named SAC Player of the Week
Tusculum quarterback Bo Cordell, Mars Hill linebacker Sammy Siasia and Newberry punt returner Corey Washington have earned the final SAC Football Player of the Week.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Tusculum quarterback Bo Cordell, Mars Hill linebacker Sammy Siasia and Newberry punt returner Corey Washington have earned the final SAC Football Player of the Week awards of the 2013 season, the conference office has announced.
SAC Football Defensive Player of the Week | Sammy Siasia, Mars Hill LB
Siasia recorded a game-high 20 tackles in Mars Hill's loss to Tusculum, increasing his season total to a SAC-best 155 stops.
The senior also had 1.5 sacks and four tackles-for-loss in the game. He totaled double-digit tackles in 10 games in 2013, and Saturday marked his second 20-tackle performance of the season.
SAC Football Offensive Player of the Week | Bo Cordell, Tusculum QB
Cordell ended his career in record-breaking fashion on Saturday, becoming Division II's all-time leader in total offense in Tusculum's 49-42 win over Mars Hill.
Cordell finished with a SAC single-game record 569 passing yards along with six total touchdowns. He also broke the conference's career passing touchdowns record, upping his total to 112 to surpass former Presbyterian quarterback Todd Cunningham's tally of 111.
Cordell finished the season with 3,920 passing yards, marking the fifth-highest single-season total in SAC history. He also led the conference in 2013 with 25 touchdowns.
SAC Football Special Teams Player of the Week | Corey Washington, Newberry PR
Washington averaged 27 yards on three punt returns on Saturday in Newberry's 55-21 non-conference victory over North Greenville, including a highlight-reel 85-yard return for a touchdown in the second quarter.
Washington's 85-yarder was the longest in the SAC in season, and came on his first punt return of the season.
