Brooks, Lions defeat Warren Wilson for third straight win

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (3-2) defeated Warren Wilson (3-6) by a score of 103-89 Tuesday night inside Stanford Arena for their third consecutive win.
The Lions dictated play from the onset, leading for all but 1:16 in the contest. In the first half of play, the teams were tied at three, but an 8-0 run from Mars Hill provided them a lead they would not relinquish. Ja'Shawn Brooks hit two of his five first half three pointers in the run. Later on, the Lions would add another 9-0 run under the belt to give themselves a 15 points advantage over Warren Wilson with just under six minutes played. Continuing to dominate offensively, Mars Hill would increase their lead to 28 points, leading the Owls 48-20 with 5:41 left in the first half. Warren Wilson would ultimately string together a late run to cut the lead down to 19 entering the half.
The Lions' offense was led by Brooks who dropped 20 points in the opening half, and shooting a perfect 5-of-5 from beyond the arc. Nassyr Daniel chipped in eight points and collected four rebounds. Jordan Gant and Brent Davis paced the Owls offense with nine and eight points, respectively.
Despite being outscored 51-46 in the second half, Mars Hill's large first half lead held true as they earned their third straight win of the season and third consecutive at home. Brooks continued to lead the Lions, adding another 11 points in the second half and collecting a double-double with a career-high 31 points and 11 rebounds. He shot 8-of-11 from three-point range. Reggie Wright also scored 11 points for the Lions in the half, finishing the contest with 19 points.
Gant had a team-high 27 points for the Owls and added three rebounds and three assists. Davis ended the game with 17 points, followed by Nicholas McDonald's 12 on the night.
Mars Hill travels to Wofford on Friday, November 23rd to take part in the Battle for Atlantis. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
