Lacrosse defeats Lees-McRae, 14-6
MARS HILL, N.C. - Mars Hill defeated Lees-McRae, 14-6, at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. The Lions improve to 6-3, while the Bobcats fall to 0-7.
Tim Burns led Mars Hill with four goals. Tyler Farmer and Eric Benesch each had three. Farmer also had six ground balls, while Chris Cudmore and Alex Gavilla added five apiece. T.J. Cowx registered three assists.
Danny Ives led Lees-McRae with three goals. Derin Vacca had two assists and seven ground balls.
Leading 4-3 after the first quarter, the Lions broke the game open by outscoring the Bobcats 6-1 in the next 15 minutes to lead 10-4 at halftime.
Dylan Price made 12 saves for Mars Hill. Jesse Mimken allowed one goal in relief of Price. Andy Nesdill recorded 18 saves for Lees-McRae.
The Lions outshot the Bobcats, 47-26. Mars Hill was 31-of-34 on clears, while Lees-McRae was 24-of-27.
Mars Hill will travel to Catawba on Saturday. Faceoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.
