Lacrosse Defeats Coker

MARS HILL, N.C. - Taylor Thilo scored the first of his four goals 18 seconds into the match to lead the Lions to a 20-5 victory over Coker College in men's lacrosse action Wednesday night at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.
Cowx led all scorers with six goals on eight shots and had one assist. He added three ground balls. Taylor Thilo followed with four goals and a game high four assists. Thilo also had three ground balls and one caused turnover. Blake Mattinson and Chad Howson also shined offensively scoring three and two goals in the win, respectively. Jimmy McBride supplied his teammates with three assists in the contest. Dylan Price played 45 minutes in goal for MHC and made four saves allowing three goals. Jesse Mimken played the final 15 minutes in the net and made two saves and allowed the same number of goals.
Keith LaClair led Coker with three goals and one assist in the loss. Josh Masciarelli played all 60 minutes in goal for Coker and made 12 saves.
MHC (4-0) outshot the Cobras (1-4), 43-15. The Lions won the ground ball battle, 56-31 and won 17-26 face-offs.
The Lions won the first frame 7-3 and then held the Cobras scoreless in the second quarter while also posting seven goals to enjoy a 14-3 lead at halftime. MHC won the third quarter 2-0 and the fourth period 4-2 to make the final score 20-5 in favor of the Lions.
MHC will play at Lenoir-Rhyne University on Saturday, February 25. Game time is slated for 2 p.m.
