Lacrosse Loses to Bears in SAC Tournament
Mars Hill’s lacrosse team ended the 2014 campaign with a 15-6 loss to Lenoir-Rhyne in the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament Thursday night at the Queens Sports Complex.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Mars Hill's lacrosse team ended the 2014 SAC campaign with a 15-6 loss to Lenoir-Rhyne in the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament Thursday night at the Queens Sports Complex. The Lions fell to 7-7 on the year while the Bears improved to 10-3 overall and will face host Queens in the finals on Saturday.
Ryan Sage led MHU with three goals while Anthony Malcolm scored two. Jimmy McBride accounted for one score. Patrick McMahon played 57:56 in goal for the Lions and made six saves. Jack Grinewich played the final 2:04 in the net for Mars Hill.
Sam Ashton led L-R with four goals and one assist. Jon Hanlon added three goals while Mike Hanlon tallied one goal and three assists. Alex Squires played all 60 minutes in goal for the Bears and made nine saves.
The Bears out scored MHU 4-2 in the first quarter and 5-1 in the second frame to enjoy a 9-3 lead at halftime. The third quarter was knotted at 3-3 to make the score 12-6 going into the fourth period. L-R scored three goals in the last quarter and held the Lions scoreless to make the final tally 15-6.
L-R outshot the Lions, 34-24. MHU won the ground ball battle, 18-17 and won 14-24 face-offs. The Lions were 0-3 in extra-man opportunities while the Bears were 1-6.
Mars Hill will end the 2014 season at Wheeling Jesuit on April 26. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
