Men's Lacrosse Blasts Brevard

BREVARD, N.C. - The Mars Hill lacrosse team had its highest offensive output since 2011 as the Lions defeated Brevard 22-3 in South Atlantic Conference action on Wednesday afternoon. Mars Hill improves to 3-3 overall and 3-2 in the SAC while Brevard drops to 4-6 and 1-4.
Jimmy McBride led the Lions with six goals, followed by Saxon Weil and Brian Pieklik with four goals, Ryan Sage with three goals and Anthony Malcom with two goals. Pieklik led the Lions with three assists, followed by Malcom, McBride and Sage with two each. The 22 goals scored by Mars Hill are the most by the Lions since a 25-6 triumph over Lenoir-Rhyne on Feb. 26, 2011.
Brendan Friss, Alex Bazzell and Sam Potsma each scored for Brevard.
Malcom got the scoring started as he picked up the ground ball from the opening faceoff and scored 27 seconds into the contest. Sage, Frank Riffe, McBride and Pieklik each scored for Mars Hill as the Lions led 5-0 after the first quarter.
Brevard cut the Lion lead to 8-2 at the 3:22 mark of the second quarter before the Lions scored the final two goals of the half for a 10-2 halftime lead.
The Lions scored seven goals in the third quarter and tallied 12 unanswered goals before Friss scored for the Tornados with 5:01 remaining in the game. Nathan Stewart and McBride accounted for the final two Lion goals.
The Lions scored five goals on four man-up opportunities and outshot Brevard 47-31.
Jack Grinewich made 16 saves on 19 shots for his second victory of 2015. Andy Reilly made 10 saves on 30 shots.
The Lions will play No. 9 Tampa in Marietta, Ga. at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
