Lacrosse Loses to Lindenwood
The Lions lost to visiting Lindenwood 13-4 in lacrosse action Thursday evening at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.
MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lions lost to visiting Lindenwood 13-4 in lacrosse action Thursday evening at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill fell to 4-5 on the season while Lindenwood improved to 7-1 overall.
Saxon Weil led Mars Hill with two goals while Nathan Stewart and Dima Ferriera added a goal apiece. Ryan Kearney and Jack Grinewich split time in goal for the Lions making seven and six saves in the contest, respectively.
Jon George led Lindenwood with three goals and one assist followed by Graeme Hossack and Lane Rommel who scored two goals each. Ben Besancenez played the first 56:03 in goal for Lindenwood and made seven saves. Aaron Wiederhoeft played the final 3:57 in the net.
Mars Hill scored the first goal of the game at the 10:39 mark of the first quarter when Stewart found the back of the net from a Hunter Maggs pass. Hossack scored back-to-back goals five minutes later to notch the tying and game winning scores. Lindenwood scored six unanswered goals to lead 8-1 with 10:07 left in the half. Goals by Weil and Ferriera trimmed the deficit to 9-3 heading into halftime.
Lindenwood outscored Mars Hill 2-1 in the third quarter and 2-0 in the fourth quarter to make the final tally 13-4 in favor of the visitors.
Lindenwood outshot MHU, 44-21. They won the ground ball battle, 36-21 and won 13-21 face-offs. There were no penalties in the contest.
Mars Hill will host SAC rival Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday, April 4. Game time is set for a 2 p.m. start.
