Lacrosse Loses to North Greenville in Overtime
The Lions lost to North Greenville 7-6 in overtime in lacrosse action Wednesday night
TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Lions lost to North Greenville 7-6 in overtime in lacrosse action Wednesday night at Pepsi Stadium. Mars Hill fell to 3-11 overall while the Crusaders improved to 5-10 on the season.
Foluke Gordon-Lamar led the Lions scoring two goals followed by Dima Ferriera who added a goal and an assist. Ryan Kearney played all 60:23 minutes in goal for the Lions and made 17 saves, his third most saves of the season.
Drew Wassenaar led North Greenville with three goals followed by Drew Warren and Alex Proly who added two goals each. Matthew Sandoval also played the entire 60:23 in the net for the Crusaders and med six saves.
North Greenville outshot the Lions, 40-18 and won the ground ball battle, 21-13. The Crusaders won 13-17 face-offs while the Lions were 1-2 on extra-man opportunities. NGU was 0-3 in extra-man opportunities.
After neither team could find the back of the net in the first quarter, Mars Hill outscored the Crusaders 2-1 in the second frame on goals by Anthony Farmer and Gordon-Lamar.
North Greenville scored three unanswered goals in the third quarter to lead 4-2 heading into the fourth period. Mars Hill outscored the Crusaders 4-2 in the fourth stanza to send the game into overtime. After trailing 6-4 with 7:46 left in regulation, goals by Ferriera and Gordon-Lamar at the 5:28 and 4:25 mark in the fourth quarter tied the game and sent the contest into overtime. Unfortunately, Warren scored the game winning goal for North Greenville 23 seconds into the first overtime period to make the final tally 7-6 in favor of the Crusaders.
Mars Hill will end regular season play against Davis & Elkins on Saturday, April 23. The game will be played in Charleston, West Virginia, at 4 p.m.
