CHARLESTON, W. VA. – The Mars Hill lacrosse team wrapped up the 2016 season with a big win over Davis and Elkins on Saturday, April 23. The Lions were able to finish the season with a 4-11 record after the 16-3 drubbing of the Senators.
MHU held a slim advantage of 2-1 after the first period of play and extended that lead to 4-1 after outscoring D&E 2-0 in the second quarter. The momentum of the second period carried over into the second half with the Lions dominating the final 30 minutes of play. A three goal margin turned into a comfortable 10-1 lead after the third stanza. Davis and Elkins added two goals in the fourth, but Mars Hill continued the offensive outburst, scoring six more times in the final quarter to make the margin of victory 16-3.
A.J. Seip led all scorers with four goals and one assist while Preston Turner added three points on three goals. Paxton Turner controlled the turf with a team-high eight groundballs to go along with three caused turnovers and teammate Asyck Schildt tallied five grounders and five forced turnovers.
Chase Pretti-Pearsall and Anthony Farmer chipped in two goals each. Ryan Kearney played all 60 minutes in goal for the Lions, collecting 10 saves.
