Lacrosse Wins at Pfeiffer
The Lions’ lacrosse team picked up their first win the of 2017 season by defeating Pfeiffer 13-10 Saturday afternoon at NE Lefko Field.
MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Lions' lacrosse team picked up their first win the of 2017 season by defeating Pfeiffer 13-10 Saturday afternoon at NE Lefko Field. Mars Hill improved to 1-1 overall while the Falcons dropped to 0-2 on the season.
Dima Ferreira led the Lions offensively with two goals and three assists. Alex Lipsky added three goals while Nathan Stewart tallied two goals, one assist and six ground balls. Spencer Andrews came off the bench to score three goals. Ryan Kearney played all 60 minutes in goal for MHU and made 16 saves.
Cody Lamond led Pfeiffer with three goals while Blade Garlow added one goal and a pair of assists. Mike Moorehead also played the entire 60 minutes in the net for Pfeiffer and made 20 saves.
Mars Hill trailed 3-2 after the first quarter before tying the contest after the second period outscoring the Falcons 4-3 in the second half to send the teams into the locker room at halftime with the score knotted at six-all.
The Falcons led 9-8 after the third period. The Lions put the game away in the fourth quarter outscoring Pfeiffer 5-1 in the final period to make the final tally 13-10 in favor of the visitors. Anthony Matusiak notched the game winner with 8:37 left in regulation on an unassisted goal. Andrews sealed the win scoring two goals at the 4:58 and 1:19 mark of the fourth quarter.
Mars Hill will host Shorter on Saturday, February 25. Game time is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
