Lacrosse Wins at Brevard
Mars Hill defeated Brevard 14-11 in South Atlantic Conference men’s lacrosse action Saturday night.
BREVARD, N.C. – Mars Hill defeated Brevard 14-11 in South Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse action Saturday night. The Lions improved to 6-7 overall and 2-6 in the league. The Tornados fell to 2-14 on the season, 0-8 in the SAC.
Dima Ferreira led Mars Hill with four goals and the same number of assists to lead the Lions to victory. Connor Fernandes followed with two goals while Jake Trafron and Nathan Stewart recorded a goal and an assist apiece. Ryan Kearney played all 60 minutes in goal for MHU and made eight saves.
Jackson McKaig scored four goals and added an assist to lead the Tornados offensively. Kyle Hunziker and David Buono followed with a pair of goals apiece. Chris Stallings also played the entire contest in the net for Brevard and made eight saves.
Brevard outshot the Lions 36-32 while the Mars Hill won the ground ball battle, 49-34. The Lions won 19-28 face-offs and were 3-4 on extra-man opportunities. Brevard was 1-3 on extra-man attempts.
Brevard led 4-3 after the first quarter and matched that same mark in the second frame to take an 8-6 lead into the locker room at the intermission.
The third stanza was knotted at 2-all to make the final period the deciding factor. The Lions dominated the fourth period outscoring Brevard 6-1. Ferreira supplied two of the assists in the attack and he also notched what would later prove to be the game winning goal at the 6:41 mark of the fourth quarter.
