Lions doubled up in loss to Lynn

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team suffered their second defeat of the season, falling to Lynn 14-7 on Saturday afternoon. Alex Lipsky led the Lions with four goals and two assists.
The Fighting Knights offense struck early and often in the contest, scoring the first seven goals. Less than two minutes into the first quarter, Mikey Urso put Lynn up 1-0 with an assist to Tyler Hopkins Eight seconds later, Keegan Maxwell doubled the lead. From the 10:03 to 8:06 mark of the first, Lynn added three more goals from the sticks of Harrison Kaplan, Nick Howard and Dryden Brous, all unassisted.
Stephen Polsinelli and a man-up goal from Xander Cosenza put the Lions in a 7-0 deficit. Lipsky scored his second of the season with 6:54 left in the half while the Lions were a man-up. Dima Ferreira picked up the first of three assists on the afternoon for Mars Hill's first tally. The Fighting Knights would strike for three goals within 1:02 to carry a 10-1 lead into halftime.
The Lions attempted to claw their way back into the game at the start of the second half. Connor Fernandes' first goal of the season began a three-goal streak for Mars Hill just 1:30 into the third quarter. Over two minutes later, Ferreira scored his first goal of the 2018 campaign to pull the Lions within seven. Lipsky scored his second goal, also a man-up, less than five minutes later to draw within six. Despite the comeback bid, Lynn fought back with three goals of their own in the final 4:42 of the third quarter. Two straight from Cosenza gave the freshman his first career hat-trick.
The duo of Ferreira and Lipsky once again sparked a Mars Hill comeback effort in the fourth quarter. Lipsky's two consecutive goals were a man-up with Ferreira assisting on both. The two would flip roles on the Lions' seventh goal of the afternoon with 2:58 left in the game. Cosenza added a fourth goal to his impressive afternoon to give Lynn the 14-7 victory.
Ryan Kearney made 12 saves in the losing effort. Collin McClelland played 30 minutes and allowed two goals on five shots for his first victory of the season.
Lynn dominated in the faceoff circle, winning 23-of-24. They collected 57 groundballs to Mars Hill's 23 and outshot the Lions 50-25.
Mars Hill returns to action Thursday, February 22 versus Colorado Mesa at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
