Men’s Soccer Runs Past LMU, 4-0
Lions record 7th shutout of season
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Lions' men's soccer team defeated SAC rival Lincoln Memorial University, 4-0 Thursday night in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. It was the seventh shutout the Lions have posted this season. MHC improved to 10-4-1 on the year, 6-2-1 in the SAC, and clinched the third seed in the upcoming Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament. LMU dropped to 7-6-3 overall and 6-3 in the conference.
Isaiah Schafer scored the Lions' first goal early in the contest (4:21) off a cross from Stephen Bivens. Nathaniel Enos recorded Mars Hill's second goal at the 38:18 mark on a strong shot from about 30 yards out. The goal was assisted by Giovanni Malnati. That was all the scoring the first half would see.
Gregg Munn scored the Lions third goal at the 56:19 mark. He found the back of the net from about 30 yards away. The goal was unassisted. Brandon Tardioli scored at the 83:48 mark to make the final tally 4-0 in favor of the hosts. The goal was scored on a cross from Nathaniel Enos.
MHC outshot the Railsplitters, 22-7. Corner kicks were even at 1-all. The Lions were called off sides once. Zac Scott played the entire match in goal for the Lions and made one save. Michael Watkins also played the entire contest in goal for LMU and made eight saves.
The Lions will host King College on Saturday, October 29. Game time for Mars Hill's Senior Day match is set for 2 p.m.
Anderson, Tusculum, Mars Hill, and LMU have clinched the first, second, third and fourth seeds, respectively, in the upcoming Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Men's Soccer Tournament. The Lions will host the sixth seed (yet to be determined) on Tuesday, Nov. 1. Start time is yet to be determined.
