Men's Soccer Defeats Tornados on Senior Night
The Lions’ men’s soccer team shutout SAC rival Brevard College 3-0 on Senior Night.
MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lions' men's soccer team shutout SAC rival Brevard College 3-0 on Senior Night. Mars Hill improved to 5-9 overall and an even 5-5 in the SAC. The Tornados fell to 5-9 on the season and 3-6 in the conference.
Prior to the contest, the Lions recognized their three senior players. Petr Buzyan, Gregg Munn and Felipe Ferraro played their final regular season match in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.
Thor-Joak Stenberg scored the Lions' first goal at the 17:21 mark off a loose ball. Tom Allison recorded the assist on the goal. The teams carried that score into the locker room at halftime.
Felipe Ferraro added an insurance goal in the 70th minute off a penalty kick. Thomaz Freitas hit a shot from the right side of the box (74:33) after receiving a great pass from Ferraro. That made the final tally 3-0 in favor of the hosts.
Mars Hill outshot the Tornados, 26-5. Corner kicks were even at seven apiece. Brevard was called offsides twice while the Lions were called offsides once. Chris Mitchell played the entire match in goal for MHU and made two saves. It was Mitchell's third shutout of the season. Heath Turner also played the entire match in goal for Brevard and made 12 saves.
The Lions will play at SAC foe Catawba College on November 2. The contest is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.
