Men's Soccer Loses to Young Harris

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lions' men's soccer team lost 5-1 to no. 24 Young Harris Wednesday night the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill fell to 0-2 on the season while Young Harris improved to 2-0-1 on the year.
An own goal by the Lions gave Young Harris a 1-0 lead six minutes into the match. Thirteen minutes later Khurram Shazad scored from six yards out off a quick pass from Paco Craig. Lewis Hilton scored Young Harris' third goal off a high pass from Ilija Ilic at the 30:04 mark. Young Harris led 3-0 going into the locker room at halftime.
Ilic scored an unassisted goal from 30 yards out in the 67th minute after intercepting a MHU goal kick. Ilic then scored his second goal of the match at the 74:46 mark off a rebound. The goal was assisted by Craig Quinn.
Thomaz Freitas put the Lions on the board at the 83:47 mark scoring on a penalty kick. That would end the scoring in the contest.
Young Harris out shot the Lions, 17-14. They also edged MHU in corner kicks, 5-4. Oliver Pannell played the first half in goal for MHU and made six saves. Chris Mitchell played the second half for the Lions in goal and made two saves. Anton Viden played all 90 minutes in the net for Young Harris and made eight saves.
Mars Hill will open South Atlantic Conference action on Friday night hosting Newberry. Match time is set for a 7:30 p.m. start.
