SALISBURY, N.C. - Derek Kaple's first goal of the season was the difference maker for the Mars Hill Lions to secure their first win of the 2017 campaign on the road against Catawba College Saturday evening.
Kaple's marker at the 61' minute mark proved to be the difference and propelled the Lions' to a key conference victory. The goal, unassisted, came from 15 yards out and beat Indians' goalkeeper Joe Gonzalez to his left.
Ben Lucas pitched a shutout for the Lions, making three saves in the contest.
The Lions are now 1-3-1, 1-0-1 in SAC play. Catawba remains winless at 0-4, 0-1 in conference play.
Mars Hill returns home and will look to build off of the victory when they face the Wingate Bulldogs. The match is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start time on Wednesday, September 20 at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.
