Lions fall 2-1 in dramatic regular season finale to Anderson

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's soccer team dropped a tough fought 2-1 contest against Anderson on Senior Day Saturday evening. Joakim Lien scored the lone Lions' goal.

Myles Duncan's game-winning goal in the second half proved to be the difference maker between Mars Hill and Anderson. Standing in the box, Duncan received a pass from Oriol Gomez near the left post and tapped it in to the open cage for the 2-1 advantage. It was Duncan's first of the season with less than 10 minutes to play.

Anderson opened up the scoring in the 21' minute. Thomas Joergsholm took a through ball from the foot of Cameron Emerson and beat goalkeeper Ben Lucas low, inside the left post for his fifth of the season.

Mars Hill would knot the game at one with Lien's third of the season. Jordan Lennon galloped down the far right sideline and laid the ball inside the box for Lien to attempt a shot. Gal Elyashiv made a fantastic first stop, but was unable to make a second save as Lien pushed the ball inside the right post.

Mars Hill ends the regular season with a record of 5-7-2 (4-4-2 SAC). Anderson wraps up their season with an 8-7-1 (4-5-1 SAC) record.

Seniors Lucas, Kyle Dix and Stian Sanner were honored before the contest was underway.

The Lions will begin postseason play early next week. The final regular season standings will be released by the South Atlantic Conference by the end of Sunday, October 29.
