HICKORY, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's soccer team (1-2-1, 0-1 SAC) fell by a score of 3-1 to Lenoir-Rhyne (3-2-0, 1-0 SAC) Wednesday evening on the road.
Mars Hill struck quickly in the first half. Less than two minutes into the game, Walker Henderson scored his first career goal off of an assist from Sebastian Bertilsson. Despite being outshot 8-3, the Lions held the lead after the first half of play.
Less than five minutes into the second half, Javier Madrono knotted the game up at one, putting home a feed from Benjamin Gnieser. The Bears scored the eventual game-winning marker 20 minutes later in the 70th minute as Eric Miller put Lenoir-Rhyne up 2-1 with 20 minutes remaining.
Victor Cascon, who assisted on Miller's tally, added insurance to the Bears' lead just over a minute later to go up 3-1. Gnieser picked up his second assist on the evening.
Brennan Whalen made five saves on the night.
The Lions return to the pitch on Saturday, September 21st at 5 p.m. when they take on Catawba on the road.
