Ortiz Earns Second Consecutive National ASC Swimmer of the Week Plaudit
MARS HILL, N.C. – Freshman swimmer Erwin Ortiz of the Lions Men's Swim Team has been named the Appalachian Swim Conference Male-Swimmer-of-the-Week.
MARS HILL, N.C. – Freshman swimmer Erwin Ortiz of the Lions Men's Swim Team has been named the Appalachian Swim Conference Male-Swimmer-of-the-Week. In addition to his fourth time earning the award, Ortiz was also named the CollegeSwimming Division II National ASC Swimmer-of-the-Week for the second consecutive week.
Ortiz, from Asheville, N.C. tallied 3 individual wins in a dual meet against St. Andrews, UNC-Pembroke, and Warren Wilson on Saturday, January 28. He won the 100 fly with a time of 52.63, 200 fly 200.01 and the 200 free 1.46:56. In the 200 free relay he led-off with a time of 21.85.
The freshman sensation along with the rest of the Lions will turn their attention to the Appalachian Swim Conference Championships. The event, scheduled for February 8-11, will be held in Christiansburg, Va.
