Boland, Ortiz earn CSCAA Scholar All-America honors
Mars Hill's Kathryn Boland and Erwin Ortiz earned spots on the CSCAA Scholar All-America team, as announced on Wednesday afternoon.
NORFOLK, Va. - The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has selected its Scholar All-America team. The award recognizes students that have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and have made national time standards for their Swimming and Diving Championships.
Mars Hill University had two swimmers receive this recognition this year.
Kathryn Boland, a rising senior, had a qualifying time in the 400 yard IM (4:30.57). Kathryn is a Recreation and Sports Management major from Charlotte, North Carolina.
On the men's side, Erwin Ortiz, a rising junior, had qualifying times in the 500 yard freestyle (4:35.08) and the 200 yard freestyle (1:39.88). Erwin is a Business major from Asheville, North Carolina.
Mars Hill Head Swim Coach Teddy Guyer stated, "I am so proud of these two individuals, they work so hard in and out of the water. They lead by example in everything they do."
