Covington Wins USTA Award

MARS HILL, N.C.-- Mars Hill's Blake Covington has been awarded the 2013 Hal Southern Junior Male Tennis Sportsmanship Award for the state of North Carolina, the team announced Tuesday.

The award is presented to the player who most exemplifies outstanding sportsmanship through leadership, civic responsibility and character, while maintaining a competitive spirit. The freshman earned the Lions a key point in their fall schedule as part of a #2 doubles victory over Brevard. Covington has seen action as part of #2 and #3 doubles pairings in addition to playing in the #4 singles court.

Mars Hill concluded the fall portion of the schedule with a 2-2 record, with victories of Brevard and Lees-McRae. The Lions return to action Jan. 19 at UNC Asheville.
