Coker Defeats Men's Tennis

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Mars Hill men's tennis team lost 8-1 to No. 33 Coker on Friday at the Coker Tennis Courts. Mars Hill falls to 5-9 overall and 3-4 in the league, while Coker improves to 7-6 overall and 7-1 in the South Atlantic Conference.

Mars Hill was swept in doubles play, with the top doubles pairing of Euquerio Guerrero and Sam Lee losing a tough 9-7 to Andre Staub and James Corfield. Tom Sizeland and William Marrafao defeated Joel Sturgis and Alberto Ortiz 8-4 in the second doubles match, with Martin Moncayo and Zach Grooms picking up an 8-3 win over Markus Gattner and Blake Covington.

In singles play, Blake Covington prevented a Coker sweep with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Grooms. Staub handed Guerrero his first loss in three matches with a 6-1, 6-0 decision. Sizeland defeated Ortiz 6-1, 6-4 in number two singles. Marrafao knocked off Lee 6-3, 7-5 in number three singles, Corfield topped Sturgis 6-2, 6-2 in number four singles, with Moncayo a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Gattner.

Mars Hill returns to action on Monday, hosting Wingate at 1 p.m.
