North Greenville Rallies to Defeat Men's Tennis

North Greenville won the final two singles pairings in tiebreakers to claim a 5-4 victory over the Mars Hill men’s tennis team on Tuesday afternoon at the Hart Tennis Complex in a non-conference match.

MARS HILL, N.C.- North Greenville won the final two singles pairings in tiebreakers to claim a 5-4 victory over the Mars Hill men's tennis team on Tuesday afternoon at the Hart Tennis Complex in a non-conference match. With the loss, Mars Hill drops to 5-13 on the season.

Euquerio Guerrero won both of his matches, defeating Rafeal Lenz Gonzalez 6-0, 6-2 in number one singles and teaming with Alberto Ortiz to defeat Gonzalez and Jose Castillo 8-1 in the top doubles flight.

After North Greenville took a 3-2 lead following Sjors van Eck's 7-6, 6-1 victory over Ortiz in number two singles, Mars Hill claimed a 4-3 lead heading into the final two matches thanks to victories by Sam Lee and Markus Gattner. Lee defeated Sergio Araujo Filho in a three set tiebreaker, 6-3, 4-6, 10-7 in number three singles, while Gattner was a 7-6, 7-6 victor over Santiago Robles in the fourth singles flight.

The Crusaders tied the match thanks to Jonathan Stanga's 2-6, 6-3, 10-5 victory over Joel Sturgis in number five singles. Marcelo Yshikawa clinched the match for the visitors as he defeated Blake Covington 2-6, 6-4, 10-5.

Mars Hill wraps up the 2014 season on Friday at home against Lincoln Memorial.  The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
