Men's Tennis Defeats Southern Wesleyan

CENTRAL, S.C. - The Mars Hill men's tennis team got the spring portion of their season off to a strong start as the Lions defeated Southern Wesleyan 9-0 at Nettles Park on Saturday.
The doubles pairing of Euquerio Guerrero and Sam Lee defeated Camillo Sandoval and Keegan Barkley 8-5 in the top doubles flight, with Alberto Ortiz and Markus Gattner teaming up to defeat Loic Delaby and Matthew Plummer 8-4 on the second court. Carlos Suares Riesco and Blake Covington were 8-4 winners over Jacob Chesney and Alex Ballenger.
Guerrero was a 7-6 (6-4), 6-2 winner in number one singles over Sandoval, with Ortiz earning a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Barkley on the second court. Lee defeated Delaby 6-1, 6-0 to secure the win for the Lions. On the fourth court, Riesco was a 6-4, 6-0 winner over Chesney, followed by a 6-2, 6-0 triumph for Covington at the fifth flight. Gattner knocked off Plummer 6-3, 6-0 on the sixth court.
Mars Hill begins South Atlantic Conference play next Saturday against Newberry at 1 p.m.
