Mars Hill selected 11th in SAC preseason poll
The Mars Hill men's tennis team was chosen 11th in the South Atlantic Conference's preseason poll, as released Thursday afternoon.
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Wingate has been picked first in the 2020 South Atlantic Conference men's tennis preseason poll, the league office announced today. The Bulldogs received 11 first-place votes from the League's head coaches with 132 total points.
Queens earned the No. 2 slot with one first-place vote and 119 points, while Tusculum came in at No. 3 with 109 points. Lenoir-Rhyne placed fourth in the poll with 105 points and Anderson was voted No. 5 with 92 points. Newberry came in at No. 6 with 76 points, followed by Coker at No. 7 with 62 points.
Carson-Newman took the No. 8 slot with 61 points and at No. 9 was Catawba with 60 points. Lincoln Memorial placed tenth with 54 points, while Mars Hill received 32 points at No. 11 and UVa-Wise rounded out the poll at No. 12 with 22 points.
In addition to the preseason poll, the SAC announced its preseason all-conference teams. Highlighting the first team were doubles partners Daniel Belsito and Josep Canyadell of Wingate, Paolo Bompieri and Joel Dunlop from Queens, and Edison Ambarzumjan and Enrico Haas of Newberry.
Belsito, Canyadell, and Ambarzumjan were named first team singles, in addition to their doubles honors. Also earning spots on the singles list were Ignacio Bidegain of Anderson, Agustin Aran Martin from Queens and Tolunay Sumer of Wingate.
The 2020 South Atlantic Conference Men's Tennis season gets underway on Friday, January 31. The 2020 SAC Men's Tennis Championship is slated for April 15, 17-18 with quarterfinals at campus sites and the semifinals and finals at the Rock Hill Tennis Center in Rock Hill, S.C.
