Lions Place Eighth in Catamount Classic
CULLOWHEE, N.C.- The Mars Hill men's track and field team placed eighth in the Benyon Sports Catamount Classic, held Friday and Saturday at the Catamount Athletic Complex.
The Lions earned 34 points in the 20 scored events, which placed Mars Hill second among Division II schools in the meet. Travis Riner set a new school-record in the Discus and placed first in the Shot Put. Western Carolina won the meet with 307 points. Participants from 16 schools competed in the event.

Riner won the Shot Put with a throw of 48'-2.00". Riner's school-record breaking throw in the Discus was 152'-4.00". That throw broke his old school record by seven feet and placed him second in the event.
MHC turned in a strong performance in the 5000 Meter Run, led by Alex Griggs who placed second with a time of 15:19.07. Derek Gibson finished four seconds behind in sixth place. Cesar Reyes rounded out Lion point-earners in the event with a ninth-place finish. Daniel Jezioranski placed 10th.
Cameron Shaw and Deandre Vines placed ninth and 10th in the 100 Meter Dash. Their official times were 11.20 seconds, with Shaw finishing a fraction of a second ahead. The two were third and fourth among Division II runners respectively.
Shaw added a 10th place finish in the 200 Meter Dash.
Mars Hill will compete in the WSSU Invitational and Multi's, which begin Friday, Mar. 29 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
