Lions Looking to Defend Regional Title
MARS HILL, N.C.-The Mars Hill men's track and field team will look to defend its Southeast Regional title when it heads to the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Championships, which begin Friday at Lenoir-Rhyne University.
Mars Hill has seen its team members set five new school-records this season. The Lions will be looking to defend the Southeast Regional Championship the team won last season. The meet will be held at the Mortez Sports Complex/Irwin Belk Track on the campus of Lenoir-Rhyne in Hickory, N.C. The two-day event begins Friday at 4:30 p.m. with the Men's Hammer Throw. Saturday's action begins at 10:00 a.m. with the Men's Long Jump.
Two Lion relay teams have set new school-records this season in the 4 x 800 and Sprint Medley events. Both records were set at the Wofford Invitational. Alex Griggs, Chase Shermer, Cesar Reyes and Eric Blackburn set the new 4 x 800 relay record. Shaw, Deandre Vines, Isaiah Phyall and Jonathan Spence accounted for the new Sprint Medley Relay record.
Travis Riner has set a pair of new records in the Shot Put and
Discus. Riner set the new Shot Put record at the Wofford
Invitational, while the old Discus record fell at the Catamount
Classic.
Cameron Shaw also set a new school-record in the 200 Meter Dash
last weekend at the Appalachian Open.
Mortez Sports Complex and Irwin Belk Track have very limited seating. Guests who need seating are advised to arrive early.
