Men's Track Records Third Place Finish in SAC Championships
The Mars Hill men’s track team recorded three individual victories on Saturday at the 2014 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Track and Field Championships. Mars Hill finished in third place with 127 points.
HICKORY, N.C.- The Mars Hill men's track team recorded three individual victories on Saturday at the 2014 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Track and Field Championships. Mars Hill finished in third place with 127 points.
Travis Riner won two events in the field for the Lions. Riner won the shot put with a throw of 53 feet, 9.25 inches and the discus with a throw of 146 feet, 10 inches. Riner was named the SAC Men's Field Athlete of the Year. Alex Griggs won his second event of the meet with a victory in the men's 5000 meter run, crossing the line in 15:14.93. Griggs won the men's 10,000 meter run on Friday evening.
Gibson was the runner-up in the men's 3000 meter steeplechase, followed by Cesar Reyes in fifth place and Carter Benge in ninth place. Gibson finished in fourth place in the 5000 meters. Isaac Phyall finished in fifth place in the men's triple jump.
In the men's 1500 meter run, Chase Shermer finished in sixth place, followed by Reyes in seventh. Jonathan Spence finished in sixth place in the men's 800 meters, with Reyes recording an eighth place finish. Trevon Gee finished in fourth place in the men's 110 meter hurdles, with Marvin Fulwood crossing the line in seventh. Thomas Colvin recorded a ninth place finish in the men's 400 meter hurdles, with Deandre Vines finishing in ninth place in the men's 200 meter dash.
