Lions compete at Bulldog Invite

The Mars Hill men's outdoor track & field team travelled a short distance down the road to Asheville, North Carolina late last week to compete in the UNCA Bulldog Invite.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's outdoor track & field team travelled a short distance down the road to Asheville, North Carolina late last week to compete in the UNCA Bulldog Invite.

Personal bests and season bests were set by many Lions on this sunny high-wind day and several Lion's finished top 5 in their respective events.

Top 5 Finishers:

Jared Benain placed 2^nd in men's Triple Jump with a mark of 14.40m.
Justus Shelton placed 2^nd in men's Javelin with a throw of 47.18m.
Jesse Shelton placed 3^rd in all three of his events – Hammer, Discus, and Shot Put. Shelton threw 42.87m in Hammer, 49.76m in Discus, and 16.87m in Shot Put. Shelton broke the Mars Hill Outdoor Shot Put record with this throw.
Antonio Lorenzo placed 5^th in men's Shot Put with a throw of 14.01m.
Levi Higgins placed 5^th in men's High Jump, matching his season best jump of 1.85m.
Gabriel Hunt set a 24-second PR in the 300m Steeplechase with a time of 10:23.4. Hunt placed 4^th overall.
Traveon Howell set a personal best in the 400m Hurdles with a time of 1:01.58. Howell placed 5^th overall.

Personal Bests and Season Bests:

Jackson McClain ran a season best in the 100m with a time pf 10.73s. McClain placed 7^th overall.

Ethan Lee doubled up on personal bests today with PR's in the 100m and 200m sprints. Lee placed 13^th in the 100m with a time of 11.07s and 10^th in the 200m with a time of 22.41s.

Brandon Wright and Braxton Cummings set personal bests in the 800m finishing nearly side-by-side in the race. Wright placed 16^th with a time of 2:02.03. Cummings placed 17^th with a time of 2:02.58.

Johnathan McIntyre established a personal best in men's Javelin with a throw of 39.39m. McIntyre earned a trip to the finals and placed 6^th overall in the event.

In his first meet of the '24 season, RaQuan Coles established a new personal best in Discus with a throw of 35.31m. Coles placed 13^th overall.

Ashtin Gainey and Jasiah Robinson both set personal bests in Shot Put. Gainey placed 9^th overall with a throw of 13.13m. Robinson placed 13^th overall with a throw of 12.06m.

Tarus Kipsang and Kelvin Kiprop both established personal bests in the men's 1500m run. Kipsang placed 24^th overall with a time of 4:17.62. Kiprop placed 26^th overall with a time of 4:19.76.

Wanya Martin set a new personal best in men's Long Jump with a jump of 5.65m. Martin placed 13^th overall.

Next up, the Lions travel to Cullowhee, North Carolina on April 19^th- 20^th to compete in the Catamount Classic hosted by Western Carolina University.
