Griggs Earns All-America Honors at National Meet
Mars Hill finished in 25th place on the team leaderboard, highest among Southeast Region teams
JOPLIN, Mo. - In his final collegiate race, senior Alex Griggs earned All-America honors as he finished in 28th place at the NCAA Division II National Championships on Saturday. As a team, MHU finished in 25th place, the highest-finishing team among Southeast Region institutions.
Griggs completed the 10 kilometer course in 30:22.10, over a minute faster than his time of 31:54.70 from his first race on the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course at the 2012 national meet where he finished in 138th. He is the first All-America runner in Mars Hill program history.
Nathan Jones finished in 63rd place with a time of 30:57.20. Both Griggs and Jones eclipsed the former school record time of 31:11 held by Justin Gragg.
Cesar Reyes finished in 142nd place as he crossed the finish line in 31:49.80. Nick Resor finished in 222nd (33:13.70), followed by Gil Gilreath in 224th (33:14.50). Brandon Beard scored a 228th place result (33:20.50), with Noah Allison rounding out the Lion lineup in 234th (33:34.80). Each of the Mars Hill runners had personal best times, with Allison lowering his personal best by over four minutes.
