Mars Hill splits with Coker in SAC action
The Mars Hill (14-16, 5-11 SAC) split with Coker (30-14, 9-7 SAC) on the road in South Atlantic Conference play Saturday afternoon. The Lions took game one by a score of 7-2, but were downed by a score of 10-5 in game two.

GAME ONE: MHU 7, COKER 2
Mars Hill used three two-run homeruns to win 7-2 over Coker to take game one.
Trailing 2-0 entering the top of the third, Ragan Broome tied the game with one swing. She hit a homerun over the left-center field fence, scoring Casey Stanek. Later in the inning, Taylor Lail's RBI single into right-center field scored Christiana Marasa to give Mars Hill their first lead of the day.
In the top of the fourth inning, Jordan Harris launched a ball over the left-center field fence for the second two-run homerun of the day, plating Cassidy Allen. Broome, in the top of the sixth, hit her second two-run homerun of the day to give Mars Hill the 7-2 advantage.
Coker opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, scoring two runs. Maria Williamson's RBI single left-center field scored the first run of the day. Hannah Goodman doubled the Cobras' lead by reaching on a fielder's choice later in the inning.
Broome led the Lions offensively, going 3-for-4 with four RBI.
Stanek allowed two runs on two hits in the complete game victory. Nikki Linthicum allowed four earned runs on seven hits in four innings pitched.
GAME TWO: COKER 10, MHU 5
The Cobras used a six-run fifth inning to come from behind and take game two in Saturday's doubleheader. Coker scored 10 unanswered runs for the win.
Trailing 5-1, Mindy North began the comeback with a two-RBI double down the left field line to pull within two runs. Makayla Shore tied the game at five with a two-run homerun. A pair of RBI singles from Anna Gluhosky and Alex Alverson provided Coker a two-run advantage entering the sixth inning.
Coker added three more runs in the sixth inning. North hit a single into left field, plating Allyson High. Two sacrifice flies from Shore and Brianna Strickland gave Coker the 10-5 lead heading into the seventh inning.
Mars Hill began the game, scoring the first five runs of the contest. In the first inning, Addison Harris hit a RBI double to left-center field that scored Shae Condon.
The Lions added three runs in the second inning. Ragan Broome plated Bobbi Jones and Hollie Norris with a two-RBI double down the right field line. A RBI single from Cassidy Allen in the top of the third plated Ashley Evans gave Mars Hill a 5-0 lead.
Shore broke the shutout bid in the bottom of the fourth with a solo homerun to left-center field.
Evans and Norris each went 2-for-3 in the game. Broome had a team-high two RBI. Shore led the Cobras offensively with four RBI, going 2-for-2. Alverson and North each had two hits in the contest.
Christine Carver earned the win, giving up one hit in four innings pitched, striking out five. Christiana Marasa suffered the loss, allowing two runs on two hits.
Mars Hill returns to the field on Tuesday, April 17 with a SAC doubleheader versus Anderson at Enka High School. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
