Women's Basketball Rallies to Defeat Lees-McRae

BRISTOL, Va. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team used a second half charge to earn their first victory of the season, defeating Lees-McRae 64-56 in the SAC/Conference Carolinas Challenge hosted by King University. Mars Hill improves to 1-1, with Lees-McRae also wrapping up the tournament with a 1-1 record.
Camille Glymph scored 13 points to lead the Lions, with Paige Chavis adding 12 points and Cadence Wilmoth with 11. Wilmoth had a game-high 13 rebounds, followed by Genice Lane with 12 boards. Mars Hill outrebounded Lees-McRae 52-37.
Kerri Belcher led the Bobcats with 15 points, followed by Kabrina Truesdale with 12 points and 10 each by Alex Anderson and Niroska Perez.
The Bobcats pulled out to a 10-2 lead within the first five minutes and led by no fewer than five points as they took a 28-20 lead into halftime. Lees-McRae enjoyed their largest lead of the game at 12 points, 34-22 with 18:08 to play in the contest. Mars Hill went on a 16-4 run, tying the game at 38 on a Chavis layup with 9:08 to play. Lees-McRae pulled ahead 42-40 before a Glymph bucket evened the score at 46. The teams remained within four points of each other until a 6-0 run gave Mars Hill a 58-52 lead. Lees-McRae pulled to within four, 58-54, but a Chavis jumper and successful free throw shooting from Glymph and Lane sealed the victory.
The Lions begin South Atlantic Conference play on Wednesday night at Lincoln Memorial. Tip-off at Tex Turner Arena is scheduled for 6 p.m.
