Lions Lose to Lincoln Memorial

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill women's basketball team lost to Lincoln Memorial by a score of 91-63 on Wednesday evening inside Chambers Gymnasium. The Lions dropped to 6-19 overall and 4-15 in the league, while LMU improved to 22-2 overall and 17-2 in the conference.
Aliyah Farmer led the Lions offensively with a team-high 19 points to go along with seven rebounds, while Paige Chavis turned in 14 points, five boards, and four assists. Madison Ervin and Jenny Edwards chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively. As a team Mars Hill shot 37% (20-54) and turned the ball over 23 times, leading to 24 points for LMU.
Unlike the first game between the two teams the initial pace to the contest was evenly contested as the two teams raced out to a 13-all deadlock following a jumper by Raven Brooks at the 1:48 mark. Lincoln Memorial finished the first quarter on a 7-2 run to lead 20-15 after one.
Back-to-back threes by the Railsplitters to open the second quarter gave them their first double-digit lead (26-15) with 7:51 to go before the intermission. The Lions kept things relatively close, but after a basket from Jenny Edwards to make the score 35-24, LMU collected the final six points of the half to head into the locker room with its biggest lead, 41-24.
Lincoln Memorial continued the run to open the second half, scoring the first 10 points, pushing the run to 16-straight. Madison Ervin put a stop to the run with a deep three from the wing followed by an Edwards layup to narrow the deficit to 51-29 with six minutes remaining in the third. However, the Railsplitters finished the quarter strong, outscoring the Lions 22-9 to take a commanding 73-38 advantage into the fourth.
Mars Hill outscored LMU 25-18 in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough as the Railsplitters enjoyed the 91-63 win. Lincoln Memorial placed five scorers in double-figures, including a team-high 16 from Dasia Maxwell. The Railsplitters were unconscious from three, knocking down 12-of-19 (63.2%) on their way to the victory.
The Lions will hit the road on Saturday, February 18 to take on Coker in a pivotal South Atlantic Conference matchup. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
