Smith scores 16 on road versus No. 21 Anderson

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Mars Hill women's basketball team (1-13, 0-10 SAC) were defeated by No. 21 Anderson (16-2, 10-0 SAC) by a score of 121-56 Wednesday evening on the road.
The Trojans ended the first quarter of play up 39-13 with Ace Easter scoring 21 points, going 6-of-7 from beyond the arc. Anderson outshot Mars Hill 81 percent to 28 in the opening 10 minutes to jump out to the 26-point lead. Leading 11-4, the Trojans reeled off 14 straight points, including three three-pointers.
Tatum Boggs, in the first half of play, scored 10 points for Mars Hill. She was responsible for five of the Lions' 11 second quarter points. Mars Hill was outscored 22-11 in the frame, highlighted by an Anderson 13-2 run over the first 5:24 of the quarter.
The duo of Easter and Alexy Mollenhaur continued to lead the Trojans' offense in the third quarter, combining for 25 of the team's 37 third quarter points. They shot a combined 8-of-10 from the floor, with Easter going 4-of-4 from beyond the arc. Mars Hill's Mariah Johnson scored seven of her 11 points in the third frame.
In eight minutes of fourth quarter action, Shayla Smith led Mars Hill with eight points, scoring 75 percent of the team's points in the frame. Anderson, led by Easter's eight fourth quarter points, outscored the Lions 23-12 to clinch their 14th straight win.
Easter led all players with 47 points, hitting 13-of-14 three-point attempts and converting all eight free throw opportunities. Mollenhauer collected the double-double, scoring 29 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.
Smith had a team-high 16 points for Mars Hill and also led the team with six rebounds. Boggs added 14 points and three assists.
Mars Hill returns to Stanford Arena on Saturday, January 26th when they host Newberry. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
